Nernst equation

Ek = RT/FZk ln{[Ko]/[Ki]}
= 61.5 log{[Ko]/[Ki]}

[WG21:p34-35]

Regulation of Na-K ATPase activity

Stimulator

  • Intracellular [Na+]
    * Normally not saturating
    * When intracellular [Na+] increase, ATPase increase
  • cAMP
  • DAG
  • Thyroid hormone
    * By increasing number of pumps
  • Aldosterone
  • Insulin

Inhibitor

  • Dopamine in kidney
    * Phosphorylating ATPase
    --> Inactivating it
    --> Natriuresis

[HH26:p428] Looking at figure 41-13, Mg2+ seems to be a cofactor in Na-K ATPase pump

(I think it is also mentioned in WG21, but can't find it)
