 3.2.3.1.1.6. Acid production

Acid production

Daily production of CO2

VO2 = 250 ml/min

R = 0.8

--> VCO2 = 200 ml/min

Thus,

Daily production
= 0.2 x 60 x 24
= 288 L/day
= 12.857 mol/day

(22.4L = 1 mol under STPD)

Net acid production

  • ~12 mole of CO2
  • 0.1 mol of fixed acid
  • 1.5 mole of lactic acid
    * Metabolised by liver
    * Does not actually contribute to net acid production if liver metabolism is normal

NB:

  • Acid turnover much greater (at least 200 mol/day)
