 3.2.3.13.3.5. Carbon dioxide

Carbon dioxide

Carbon dioxide

CO2 content is hard to calculate because of the 3 forms of carriage:

  • Dissolved (5%)
  • Bicarbonate (90%)
  • Carbamino compound (5%)

Contribution to a-v difference of CO2 content

  • Dissolved - 10%
  • Bicarbonate - 60%
  • Carbamino - 30%

NB:

According to KB,

  • PaCO2 = 40mmHg
  • PvCO2 = 46mmHg

Thus,

  • CvCO2 = 48mL of CO2/dL
  • CvCO2 = 52mL of CO2/dL
