Other generalised seizures

Myoclonic seizures

  • Loss of consciousness
  • Brief, shock-like muscular contractions that may be generalised or limited to one or more extremities.

 

Tonic seizures

  • Loss of consciousness
  • Prolonged strained contraction of the body with deviation of head and eyes.
  • Patient becomes pale, flushed, and then cyanotic.
  • Body may rotate around in position.

 

Clonic seizures

  • Loss of consciousness
  • Repetitive clonic jerks without tonic element

 

Atonic seizures

  • Loss of consciousness
  • Sudden loss of postural tone in the head, trunk, and/or limb
