Initially

  • Coryza symptoms - rhinorrhoea, cough, fever
  • Poor feeding
  • Drowsy
  • Seizure
  • Reduced level of consciousness
  • Nausea and vomiting

Followed by

  • CNS symptoms
    * Photophobia
    * Headache
    * Neck stiffness
       -> for <2mo, ask about irritability when nappy changed
    * Symptoms of raised ICP
       -> Raised frontenelle
       -> Papilloedema
    * Positive Kernig's sign
  • Rash
    (mainly peripheries)
