  • Conversion of plug into definitive clot is by formation of insoluble fibrin from soluble plasma protein fibrinogen
  • Fibrin initially is a loose mesh of interlacing strands
  • Stabilisation is when this loose mesh is converted to a tight and dense aggregate via formation of covalent cross-linkages
