Glomerulotubular balance

When GFR increases,

--> Sodium reabsorption in proximal tubule increases

--> Fraction of sodium (and thus water) reabsorbed in proximal tubule remains the same (65%)

 

Effect

Blunts changes in sodium excretion due to GFR changes

 

Comparison

  • GFR autoregulation blunts changes in GFR due to changes in BP
  • Tubuloglumerular feedback blunts changes in pressure natriuresis and diuresis
  • Glomerulotubular balance blunts changes in sodium excretion due to changes in GFR
